The practice of yoga, a journey of inner exploration and transformation, sometimes leads us to confront pain. Instead of being an obstacle, it can become a teacher, teaching us profound lessons about our body and mind.
In the practice of yoga, mindfulness becomes our compass. When we face pain, it is crucial to listen to our body carefully and respectfully. Pain can be a messenger, indicating areas of tension, imbalance or emotional resistance. Instead of ignoring pain, let’s embrace it as a teacher guiding us toward greater awareness and understanding of ourselves.
Opening ourselves to this positive dimension of pain, the distinction between pain and harmful pain is very important. It is vital to distinguish between normal pain in practice and pain that may indicate an injury. With practice we will recognize the limits of our body with love and compassion. If the pain crosses the line into injury, it is essential to stop. Knowing and respecting our personal limits is an integral part of the conscious practice of yoga.
Mindfulness becomes our most valuable ally when addressing pain in yoga practice. Focusing on breathing, observing sensations in the body, and staying present in the moment helps us cultivate a more compassionate relationship with pain. We can observe pain as another sensation in our body, trying to leave the emotional burden that we have linked to this concept. Mindfulness does not eliminate pain, but it allows us to change our perception of it, transforming it from a negative experience to an opportunity for learning and self-discovery.

The practice of yoga is not about performing perfect postures, but about honoring our body at every stage of our life. In the face of persistent pain, consider modifying or adapting postures to relieve pressure on sensitive areas. Humility and flexibility in our practice are key to embracing pain in a way that respects and nourishes our body.
